One more night with our baby

As they were doing the tests to declare Addy brain dead, they found a trickle of blood in her brain stem. This doesn't change anything other than the fact that they cannot declare her brain dead today. They gave us three options, we could take her off the ventilator, which would not allow her to donate organs; we could do donation after cardiac death, which means that her heart would stop and then they could take organs below her diaphragm; or we could wait another night, do another brain scan and declare her tomorrow. We chose to have another night with Addy. The biggest deciding factor was the donation. We found out that her heart is needed in New York by a four month old and there are 7 other children waiting for a heart at the same center. There is also a chance her kidneys will be going to California. Our sister-in-law said that would be perfect because California is where we went on our honeymoon and New York was where we took our last vacation before we had Addy. It is really important for us to donate her organs if possible because if we can save another family from going through this heartbreak, then we will.

  1. You and Pat have strength and courage far beyond your years. Guess that's where Addy gets it from. Please kiss her for me.

  4. Addy Anne makes me think of a supernova…stellar explosion … extremely luminous … causing a burst of radiation that often briefly outshines an entire galaxy...in a short interval, can radiate as much energy as the Sun is expected to emit over its entire life span… driving a shock wave triggering the formation of new stars....you are in our hearts and our prayers-Jeff, Kim, Jakob, Sarah

  5. When I lost my Dad he was able to save many lives with his gift of organ and tissue donation. May your family take comfort that your precious daughter was able to help another.

  6. We have been keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers since we first heard about Addy's illness. God has given you such amazing strength throughout this journey. We will continue to keep you all in our prayers. May God keep his loving arms wrapped around you all, and shower you with his great love. He must have one magnificent plan for that special little baby. It will all be revealed one day. Oh what a glorious day that will be! Hugs and prayers... Ashley and Josh Coffman

  7. This story breaks my heart. But I know God has a plan. Addy must have been put on this earth to be a gift to others. It seems that she has been a gift to you and your family and now she will be a gift to other children that dont even know her, but will carry her legacy through. May God comfort Addy's family through this difficult time.

  9. Thank you so much for choosing to have part of your beautiful daughter Addy live on in the lives of other children (awaiting a similar fate) through organ donation. She will be an answer to many prayers for several families. I can't even begin to imagine your pain and suffering but please know that you are all deeply loved and in our thoughts and prayers. And the last part of your blog about New York and California is truly amazing. It's definitely a sign that Addy will live on....
    God Bless Addy Anne Snyder.

  10. I just recently heard about your story, yesterday actually at church. Following things on Facebook today, I decided to lift your precious little girl up in prayer. I have spent the last hour reading your story and enjoying Addy's pictures. I am at a loss for words right now. My heart is broken. It takes strength and courage and more love than many have to share this story with the world! God Bless you and your 8 months with Addy! So many people have fallen in love with your precious little angel. Thoughts and prayers to you all.

  14. My prayers go out to you, Pat, and the rest of your family as you are all dealing with the loss of Addy. She was such a happy little girl and although Addy was only here for a short time, she was able to touch so many people's lives, and that in itself is a blessing. Everyone she came in contact with, she always made them smile in some way. Now we will cherish all those memories that she has left us with. I know I will never forget when I got to hold her before she was really sick and she had that beautiful smile on her face the whole time. :) She made a huge impact even on our community. She now walks beside Jesus in paradise.
    Much love,
    Kahla Ann

  15. You don't know me, but your story has touched my heart tremendously. I have a daughter close in age to little Miss Addy. I see pictures you post of her being a normal happy baby and I can't help but imagine myself in your situation. I cannot even fathom how difficult this time must be for your family. You are very courageous for telling your story to everyone. My prayers are with you all during this time. Thanks to the power of the internet your story has reached us out here in New Mexico and will likely go farther.
    God Bless,
    The Jaramillo Family :)

  17. There simply aren't words enough to tell you how amazing I think your beautiful family is. I know Addy isn't Earth Side any longer, but her life has touched so many. And she is going to help others forever. My heart is with you all.
